Per-task billing punishes multi-step workflows; per-execution billing punishes chatty polling. The same workflow can differ 10x in cost between vendors purely on billing shape.

Connector depth vs. breadth
Eight thousand shallow connectors matter less than deep, well-maintained support for the six systems you actually run. Test the specific triggers and actions you need.

Error handling
Look for retries with backoff, dead-letter queues, partial replay and alerting. Automation that fails silently is worse than no automation.

Version control and environments
Can you diff a workflow, promote it from staging to production, and roll it back? Teams outgrow tools that treat workflows as untracked mutable state.
